Between light steps and bright smiles, a carefree ballet kicks off a game of deception: perfection is never what it seems!
Words SABRINA BOLZONI
For the first time ever, I didn’t even think about hitting the ‘skip intro’ button!
Already in the first moments of the first episode of ‘The Perfect Couple’, a Netflix TV series starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber, I was totally captivated by the infectious energy of the choreography involving all the characters, to the tune of ‘Criminals’ by Meghan Trainor.
Apparently, I’m not the only one, given the explosive success on TikTok!
The group dance conveys a lively and carefree atmosphere: the bright colours and smiles of the protagonists herald a light-hearted narrative, like a joyful and almost frivolous family saga.
The action of the characters pointing at each other with their forefingers, accompanied by almost childlike leaps, could somehow anticipate a continuous shifting of responsibility, as if the ‘blame’ were bouncing from one to the other.
So, for the first 31 seconds, the narrative is treated with an amusing and playful lightness.

The break is sharp with the actual beginning of each episode, where the storytelling takes another turn: there is a murder, and the guilty party must be found!
This sharp dichotomy between the intro, in which the actors exchange smug glances and move with darting vivacity, and the emotional detachment of the protagonists, which evolves over the six episodes, creates an interesting contrast between fun and tension.
This contrast thus represents a balance between playfulness and suspense, in which, judging by the success achieved, fun has prevailed in capturing the audience’s attention.
At this point, the question naturally arises: do we really need more lightness and joyfulness?
