After a Fall Winter collection that was a homage to the legacy of Cristobal Balenciaga and to the brand’s heritage, Demna Gvasalia goes back to the style of his own brand, Vetements.
This collections is more about garments than style. And the re-elaboration of ordinary, if not boring or plain ugly, pieces is definitely its core: masculine striped shirts, trench coats, quilted sports jacket and classic dresses went through the Demna treatment and became cool and modern. His “transforming-bad-taste-into-chic” vocation is at work with euro and dollar prints on silk dresses and tacky sunset posters scans on leather pants and the signature stretch boot/stockings. And, as Christopher Kane did before, he went as far as making Crocs, the ultimate in un-chic but confortable footwear, with a platform and decorations. You need a good dose of irony to wear them, especially with a long slip dress.
