With upcycling and vintage clothing at its core, this exclusive fashion editorial is an ode to the talent of emerging designers and their commitment to sustainable alternatives

Sustainability, but make it fashion, so to speak. That’s the message emanating from the latest fashion series developed by Milan-based photographer Karim El Maktafi and fashion stylist Martina Repetto; an extravagant, lighthearted look at the future of fashion and its cultural implications.
A collaboration born from a multifaceted bunch of creatives — including hairstylist Kilian Marin, jewelry and accessories label Makeda&Kitsune (Gaia Makeda and Jade Kitsune, with the latter also posing as a model for the shooting), and artist Zagom alongside El Maktafi and Repetto themselves — the editorial relies on the powerful visual language of art, design, and fashion as a means of promoting a less wasteful approach to life and its little ‘pleasures,’ from clothing and jewelry all the way to furniture.
Featuring one-of-a-kind creations such as vintage and upcycled garments, handmade accessories obtained from discarded materials, and original artworks, DIY: Bring Fashion Back To The Future stresses the importance of adopting a so-called “Do-It-Yourself” mindset to counter the negative environmental impact of fast fashion and other large-scale productions.
Protagonist of the editorial alongside the many spotlighted talents is SousVintageShop, a Milanese paradise for second-hand clothing lovers sourcing and selling the best vintage items in town since 2010. Also involved in the development of the iconic editorial are Copenhagen-based jewelry designer Caroline Ohrt as well as fashion designers Christina Seewald, Mavie Labo, and Lucile Guilmard, whose creations perfectly fit into the almost surreal aesthetic of the series.
