The ‘Paparazzi’ Collection – A Sartorial Ode to La Dolce Vita
words MATTIA MARCASSA BARBIERI
In their latest menswear collection for Fall/Winter 2025/26, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana continue to blur the lines between celebrity and fashion, embracing the dazzling world of glitz and glamour with their aptly named “Paparazzi” collection. Known for their opulent designs and celebrity clientele, Dolce & Gabbana once again places themselves at the intersection of fashion and fame, all while maintaining a staunchly private personal life.

A Nod to the Culture of Visibility
Drawing inspiration from the relentless gaze of the paparazzi, the collection delves into the etymology of the term itself. Coined by Federico Fellini in his iconic 1960 film La Dolce Vita, the name Paparazzo was inspired by Italian slang for a mosquito—”a buzzing insect, hovering, darting, stinging,” as Fellini once described. Today, with smartphones in hand, we have all become part of this incessant swarm, documenting every moment of our lives.
The show opened with an evocative scene: velvet curtains parted to reveal a red-carpeted runway lined with impeccably dressed “paparazzi” in sleek black D&G tuxedos. This theatrical setup served as a commentary on the intrusive nature of modern celebrity culture, tracing the journey from everyday routines to the glitz of red-carpet events. Throughout this journey, Dolce & Gabbana showcased their unparalleled ability to create seductive and effortlessly chic garments.

From Laid-Back Elegance to Red Carpet Glamour
Moving away from the heavily tailored looks of previous seasons, the designers embraced a ’60s Dolce Vita swagger. The collection featured layered, roomy daywear in soft-washed denim, elevated by voluminous faux-fur coats and plush furry trimmings that exuded prestige.
As the show progressed, the focus shifted to more formal attire. Tweed suits and slender, malleable coats captured a relaxed yet impeccably tailored aesthetic, epitomizing old-world elegance. Styling was deliberately streamlined, eschewing excess for well-curated contrasts. A standout piece was a dark purple sequined double-breasted blazer, paired with casual cargo and low-fi sneakers—a subtly nod to the upcoming awards season.

The collection culminated in a series of black tuxedos that showcased Dolce & Gabbana’s mastery of tailoring. These pieces featured loose, elegant silhouettes reminiscent of the 1940s, with fluid-draped trousers and double-breasted jackets adorned with wide satin lapels. Scarves tied sensually around the neck added a romantic flair, while dazzling rhinestone brooches pinned on lapels or at the waist provided just the right amount of shimmer.

Dolce & Gabbana’s “Paparazzi” collection seamlessly blends nostalgic glamour with contemporary flair, crafting a wardrobe that honors the timeless charm of “La Dolce Vita” while reflecting the dynamic energy of today’s celebrity culture. Each garment invites men to step confidently into the spotlight, embodying the essence of modern sophistication with a reverence for classic elegance.
