Milan June 16th, in collaboration with GRAND TOUR STUDIO, the designer Bárbara Sánchez Kane presented a live installation that functions as a dramatic preview of the themes of Sánchez Kane’s next SS-19 collection; a personal investigation for the designer, who as she enters her thirties, frankly confronts social questions of motherhood, beauty, femininity and death in a complete re-analysis of her recurrent “Macho Sentimental” theme.
The name of creative mind behind SÁNCHEZ-KANE is Bárbara, graduated from Polimoda and with previous studies in industrial design. She presented her graduation collection “Catch as Catch” in 2015 at Pitti Uomo 86 and was quickly named by VOGUE Italia as one of the emerging talents to follow. Several further achievements followed: Winner of TFORTHREE and VFILES RUNWAY 7 finalist.
What inspires you in the street when you walk in Mexico City?
B: México has always been my starting point curated by the reflection of my diary with all its complexities.
The city atmosphere and the encounter with people are amazing. I just find “centro” (downtown) the perfect place to walk and go to markets that are so inspiring. How people style their cloths or how you see sale persons with a tray of fruit in their head finding a very clever way to sale their articles – that silhouette and color makes SK folkloristic approach to reality.
How did you feel doing the performance?
It is very personal for me to get involved as a performer in the last presentation in Milan.
This season I wanted to first introduce the silhouette of my next SS19 collection and talk about subjects as – femininity, beauty, death and decay.
Surrounded SK world with misfits – debit with music and the photography of DORIAN ULISES LOPEZ with his “MEXICANO” portraits of Mexican men.
I felt so emotional when I started painting Carolina – it was just such a pure and improvise experience.
It felt so sexual and erotic but also pure.
It was an intimate gathering with close friends and media where my insecurities found its death.
