MM6 MAISON MARGIELA PRESENTED ITS SS 20 COLLECTION AT FABBRICA OROBIA WITH A VERY UNSUAL PERFORMANCE
More than a usual presentation, that of MM6 was a truly performance that has seen creepy figures crazily parading in a semi abandoned space (a former railway station) in the south area of Milan. Carrying on individual speakers playing different sounds – from rock and folk music to spoken word recitals, church bells and chirping birds – models showed MM6 Spring Summer 2020 wardrobe.
Every single piece reveals its double soul pun in a extraordinary context: tulle cleft-open dresses are worn undone or back-to-front while shawl collar blazer – available in black leather, white satin or blue denim – enwrapped the body as straightjacket.
In addition to the classical MM6 logo and number device, two new slogans (“They Are Two of a Kind” and “BETTERHALFISM”) adorn T-shirts as well as dresses and coats directly referring to the very collection’s theme, that of the duality of a single garment.
Inspired also by the discussed couple of John Lennon and Yoko Ono – in particular by their wedding in 1969 and their following “Bed-In” for Peace – the collection sees also satirical pieces such as tin can cylinder-heeled boots and sandals that funnily refer to the “chivaree” tradition of a couple’s wedding night.
Finally the accessory collection squared toe boots, nano sized origami bags and “found object” jewellery made of ID tags, house key pendants and safety pin charms.
