Inside Chanel’s Effortlessly Elegant SS25 Show
words MATTIA MARCASSA BARBIERI
A few months after Virginie Viard’s farewell, Chanel returns to the past with a light, fresh, and refined collection created by the team of the style office. Presented at the Grand Palais Éphémère, the collection paid homage to Chanel’s rich heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion, all in a way that felt refreshingly light, wearable, and artfully sophisticated. The theme is freedom represented by feathers, light fabrics, and bright shades.

One of the most striking features of the collection was how the Chanel team managed to reinterpret classic Chanel codes in an innovative yet respectful manner. Tweed, one of the brand’s signature materials, was ever-present, but this season it came in lighter, more relaxed forms—tailored suits in pastel hues, cropped jackets paired with flowing skirts, and deconstructed coats that moved with fluidity. The way these fabrics were manipulated showcased the team’s deep understanding of respecting Chanel’s DNA while making it relevant to today’s woman.
The accessories, as always, were a highlight. Oversized pearls, exaggerated brooches, and the iconic quilted bags received an unexpected update with metallic tones and playful, contemporary details like micro-bags attached to belts. The interplay between the brand’s timeless elements and youthful, modern touches created a dynamic visual story on the runway, making even the most traditional pieces feel fresh and exciting.

The color palette was equally captivating. Soft pastels—baby pinks, mint greens, and buttery yellows—dominated the runway, evoking a sense of spring’s delicate beauty. Yet, these hues were contrasted by bold pops of black, shimmering silvers, and rich golds, offering a juxtaposition that felt as luxurious as it was approachable. The attention to detail in the fabric choices and layering of textures further demonstrated Chanel’s keen eye for craftsmanship.
One of the most commendable aspects of this collection was its wearability. Despite the show’s high-fashion allure, many of the pieces felt attainable and versatile. Whether it was the reimagined classic Chanel suit or the breezy, ethereal dresses, each item exuded a sense of ease and comfort—something that is increasingly important in today’s fashion landscape.

The show’s production also deserves praise. The set design, inspired by a futuristic garden, was a perfect backdrop for the collection’s harmonious blend of nature and modernity. As models glided down the runway to a soundtrack of electro-pop beats, the energy was palpable—a celebration of Chanel’s legacy, but also a bold statement about where the brand is headed in the future.
Chanel SS25 was a triumphant collection, balancing timeless elegance with a refreshing sense of innovation. The Maison’s confident direction ensured that while the house remains rooted in its iconic past, it is also evolving to meet the needs and desires of today’s fashion-forward clientele. A truly inspiring show that reaffirmed Chanel’s place at the pinnacle of the fashion world.
