Briglia 1949 celebrates masculine elegance by blending Neapolitan tailoring tradition with innovation for the gentleman of tomorrow

Words SABRINA BOLZONI

I find myself at the Briglia 1949 stand at Pitti, a space that exudes refinement and meticulous attention to detail at first glance. Amidst the fine fabrics and garments displayed with an almost theatrical precision, one detail immediately catches my eye: a book of photographs by Tazio Secchiaroli, open to a shot of Marcello Mastroianni.
His natural and timeless class seems to perfectly embody the essence of Briglia 1949, a brand that reinterprets Italian sartorial tradition with an innovative spirit. It is in this context, suspended between inspiration and style, that I have the opportunity to meet Michele Carrillo, the soul and heart of the brand.

Briglia 1949 positions itself as “the first choice for the modern gentleman.” How would you define the contemporary gentleman?

“He is a confident man, aware of his style, and able to adapt to different contexts and changing times. The values a garment must convey to best represent him are authenticity, refined sobriety, and a balance between heritage and innovation. Each of our trousers is designed to tell a story that our clients can make their own: a story of quality, elegance, and artisanal care.”

One of the distinguishing features of Briglia 1949 trousers is the elasticated waistband—a detail that combines comfort and practicality without sacrificing style. This stylistic choice connects directly to the brand’s primary source of inspiration: the world of equestrianism.
Class, precision, and functionality, characteristics inherent to this universe, are reflected in garments that offer freedom of movement without compromising sophistication. Briglia 1949 trousers are designed for men who lead intense lives, requiring versatile garments that adapt to any occasion while maintaining a perfect balance of aesthetics and functionality.

How do you integrate material quality with a commitment to sustainability?

“Since the Covid period, Briglia 1949 has embarked on a path of continuous research into sustainability. We use premium materials, such as the wools from Loro Piana, Leomaster, and Marzotto, which combine luxury and respect for the environment. This commitment extends to innovative production processes that are increasingly eco-friendly. Sustainability has become an essential value in meeting the demands of an increasingly mindful and conscientious market.”

Looking to the future, what are Briglia 1949’s next goals? Are there new lines or collaborations in the works?

“Collaborations have always been an integral part of Briglia 1949’s philosophy, and we continue to develop new ones to expand our vision and impact. One of our main future objectives is the expansion into the South American market, a region we consider strategic for our brand and where we see significant growth opportunities.”

As I leave the stand, I find myself returning to that image of Marcello Mastroianni, an icon of natural and timeless elegance.
It is the same elegance that Briglia 1949 translates into its garments, achieving a perfect harmony between sartorial tradition and modernity.
Just like the contemporary gentleman, the brand looks forward without ever forgetting its roots, creating not just clothing, but stories of style that are told at first glance.
