Hodakova’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection was a powerful exploration of repurposing and reimagining traditional aesthetics

Designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson brought an eclectic mix of art, utility, and nostalgia to the runway, transforming household items into high-fashion statements. One of the most striking elements was the use of actual landscape paintings as fabric, making art wearable, particularly in frame-like dresses and tote bags. This innovation was grounded in Larsson’s philosophy of finding new paths for comfort and creativity, reflected in the collection’s ability to make us reconsider the materials and objects in our daily lives.

The collection also featured playful yet sophisticated references to Swedish rural life, with red and white checked textiles reminiscent of dishcloths, and accessories like woven belt bags shaped like traditional berry baskets. These homey details were juxtaposed against more structured and modern pieces, creating a dialogue between the past and present, much like the reconstructed tweed jackets that included sleeves styled to look like casually tied sweaters. Traditional wool trousers for men were disassembled, and the waistbands were used to create eye-catching gowns. The sleeves of blazers and sweaters were placed over skirts or shoulders to breathe new life into otherwise plain clothes. An innovative yet classic woven leather skirt complemented with a matching backpack and a plain white top embodied the beauty of Hodakova’s repurposed clothing. Rich browns, blacks, and whites made up Hodakova’s subdued color scheme, which let the elaborate design of her clothing steal the show. Hodakova provided a contemplative and imaginative view of the future of fashion through these designs.
Larsson’s innovative approach continued with the return of argyle patterns from previous collections, subtly integrated into various looks. The show achieved a balance between whimsical rural nostalgia and highfashion sophistication, encapsulating a desire for harmony in both design and lifestyle.
