First introduced 20 years ago in Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2003 collection, the Gucci Horsebit Chain bag return as a worthy alternative to the iconic Jackie 1961, a true emblem of the maison.
This model boasts compact dimensions, featuring two extended sides in a trapezoidal shape with rounded corners, giving the accessory a graceful appearance. The choice between a leather shoulder strap or a chain is essential for the bag’s functionality, but its central element truly sets it apart and imparts personality to the design Reintroduced in a maxi version, the unmistakable metal clasp, designed by Aldo Gucci for the legendary moccasin has immediately became a cult accessory.
In the Fall/Winter 2023 campaign, Vittoria Ceretti highlights how the bag’s design encapsulates the beauty of a style so representative of a bygone era which still is relevant today. There are many ways to wear it over the shoulder, as a clutch or carried by hands.
The new Gucci Horsebit Chain bag has been reimagined with the addition of a double strap and is available in various versions, including matelassé leather, shearling, crystal embellishments, and vibrant contrasting leather colour. Gucci initially drew inspiration from the aesthetics of English horse racing in incorporating the Horsebit design into its leather products.
In 2003, during Tom Ford’s creative reign, the Horsebit 1955 was unveiled, a creation destined to leave an eternal mark in the Maison’s history. The Chain bag redefined the concept of the shoulder bag that can be easily transformed into a sophisticated clutch. It can be held delicately, nestled in the hands to guard its secrets. This is a bag that will continue to inspire future generations.
